A Sport Vertical is what we at WLO call an 'area of sport interest' or 'sport activity category'. Fishing is a vertical, as are Hunting, Camping and Boating. Some verticals are 'whole units' themselves with very little sub-categorization (like 'Bungee Jumping') but many others can be divided up into sub-categories that are whole industries themselves (like Fishing - Bass Fishing, or Hunting - Big Game Hunting).
"So why is this important?" you might ask. Well, we have found that delivering information about Marlin fishing to a Bass Fisherman, or Pistol Shooting to a Trap Shooter, or Downhill skiing info to a showshoe enthusiast or Power Boating info to a Sailor was kind of 'missing the boat' (if you'll pardon the pun). So in an attempt to categorize information in as relevant a way as possible, we have come up with a list of more than 40 'verticals' with which the outdoors enthusiast can self-identify. Content on the site is then target to those interests.
